Duty free allowance for travellers arriving from outside the European Union and aged 17 years and above: 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 100 cigarillos, or 250 grams of tobacco; two litres of wine; one litre of spirits with an alcoholic content exceeding 22% volume or two litres of spirits/aperitifs with an alcoholic content less than 22% volume or two litres champagne/sparkling wine/liqueur; 50 grams of perfume; 0.25 litre of eau de toilette; and gifts of a value not exceeding approximately EUR175. Limits cannot be added for passengers travelling together.

Value Added Tax (VAT) Refund Scheme:
All visitors to Austria residing outside the EU are entitled to a refund of Austrian value-added tax, which is included in the price, on purchases of a minimum value of EUR75.01. The average refund after deduction of a handling fee by Global Refund amounts to about 13 per cent of the purchase price.
How to claim your VAT refund:
Global Refund cheque to be filled and stamped with the customs immigration stamp. No refund is possible without the stamp. Alternatively, you can send the Global Refund cheque to Global Refund and have the money transferred to you.
Driving licence:
Driving is on the right-hand side of the road. An International Driving Permit or an EU licence is required along with a driving licence from your country of residence. The minimum age for driving is 19 years.
