Less than two hours’ drive from Cape Town, this region is renowned not only for its illustrious past and unrivalled scenic beauty, but also presents visitors with an exciting experience of the South African way of life.

The Cape Country region, also called The Cape Winelands, is the largest wine producing region in South Africa and is divided into six main regions, each offering their own unique wine route – Constantia, Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Paarl, Robertson and Wellington are the most popular. Experience rolling vineyards, quaint Cape Dutch homesteads, museums, galleries, theatres, award-winning restaurants and wine festivals which all make a wonderful experience of the South African culture and way of life.

Within the Cape Country region are unique villages nestled along the wayside, one of the most typical is Franschhoek, an ideal area for a day of estate touring and wine-tasting. Most farms warmly welcome visitors to sample some of South Africa’s top wines. Franschhoek is also known as the gourmet capital of the Cape and the small town features a number of acclaimed restaurants with everything from delicious Cape country fare to sublime French cuisine.

In the heart of the Cape Country lies another unique village, Stellenbosch. This area is known for its great beauty and culture that’s steeped in South African tradition.

Within its venerable old buildings are many galleries and museums, housing important national and international art collections. The village is also internationally-renowned for its quality wine originating from as many as 106 cellars within the area.

The Cape Country can be explored by day trips or alternatively by short side trips from Cape Town, with overnight in classic small hotels or as a combination of several lovely hideaways.
